Daily Post Photo Challenge: Orange

Posted on

This Daily Post Photo Challenge is a multi-photo challenge related to the color Orange.  There are many versions of the color orange, from the warmth of an orange sun to the muted brownish-orange of dead grass. Here are a few photos from my files that feature the color orange.

The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

Posted on

The week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge is ‘Express Yourself. Now, that’s a hard one. How, among all the photos I’ve taken over the years, do I find one that expresses me or my ideas? I rifled through my archives, though, and came up with this. What do you think?

I'm something of a loner, and am always taking a flyer at new things - a bit giddy even. A lone goose soaring through the sky, I think, expresses me perfectly.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dialogue

Posted on

The week’s photo challenge is Dialogue. I take this to mean two or more photos that relate to, or communicate with, each other in some way. Anyway, I think the young Muslim girl on her way to the mosque is a definite form of communication:

The Daily Post photo challenge for the week is ‘Fray.’ This is a word that can have many different meanings, so how would you show it photographically?  Here’s my interpretation – I’d be interested in your comments on why you think I picked this photo:

Photo Challenge: Split Second Story

Posted on Updated on

I first saw Fayetteville, NC in the 1960s when I reported to Ft. Bragg for Special Forces training. Hay Street in the downtown center was a strip of bars, clubs and dives that had given the city the nickname ‘Fayettenam,’ a play on Vietnam. It wasn’t a place you’d want to take your family – unless you wanted to get rid of them. I was recently back in Fayetteville for another visit to a much-expanded Ft. Bragg – this time as a civilian consultant – and when I went downtown, I was blown away. Here’s what Hay Street looks like circa 2014.

Sidewalk cafes and street musicians have replaced the dives of the past. It's not Fayette-nam anymore.

Today’s Daily Writing Prompt:  I Pledge Allegiance invites writers, photographers, and artists to illustrate patriotism.  Here’s my offering.

"Vietnam Memorial Wall"
In a peaceful green setting, this stark black memorial honors all who died in Vietnam.
