When I insisted, in Italian, that I get the correct change at a kiosk min the Rome Train Station, the server told me I need to learn Italian. I WAS using Italian and refuse to be cheated. lol She threw the correct change at me.
Americans are not the only ugly people when it comes to cultural arrogance. Once in China, I was speaking Chinese to a young man who kept saying he didn’t understand me (wo bu ming bai). When I asked him in Chinese why he didn’t understand, (wei semme ni bu ming bai?P he said ‘because you are a foreigner (yin wei ni si hai guo ren). Then I asked him how it was he could understand that, his eyes went round, he turned and ran away.
