Review of ‘The Midnight Eye Files: The Amulet’

Posted on Updated on

Derek Adams, a seedy Glasgow PI, has lots of time on his hands. So, when a beautiful woman asks him to find a missing piece of jewelry, an amulet, he figures what the heck, and takes the case.

Pretty quickly, Adams finds himself neck-deep in the world of illegal antiques, and the bodies start piling up around him. As if that’s not enough, things that are hard for a mere mortal to comprehend begin to happen.

I received a free copy of William Meikle’s The Midnight Eye Files: The Amulet in exchange for my unbiased review.

A well-crafted mystery, with grit and humor a la Raymond Chandler or Mickey Spillane. Meikle does a good job creating a protagonist who is inherently flawed, but who wants in the end to do the right thing—or at least, do things right. Derek Adams is no Spenser, but he’ll hold his own.

I give it four stars.
